Lady Bountiful opened its doors in September 1993 and is the brainchild of Alice Jacob.

Due to a thyroid condition Alice suffered from since her late teens, she found it increasingly difficult to control her weight. As she began to see her Size 12 figure disappear, she also noticed her choice in fashionable clothes were disappearing too!

"For some reason, manufacturers seem to think that large women, looking for sizes 18 - 32, have no desire to dress fashionably!" said Alice.

Alice and her colleagues travel all over Europe looking for elegant clothes for her customers in a range of plus sizes (sizes 18 - 32), many of whom have become regulars since Lady Bountiful's inception.

"We think of specific customers when we are buying. That's what makes us unique in the range of plus size clothes we stock."

Customers travel from Scotland, Yorkshire, the Midlands as well as the Isle of Man and Channel Isles to visit Lady Bountiful. So, for all your plus size (size 18 - 32) Lady Bountiful awaits!

Taking note of the many complaints from her customers about the difficulty in visiting her shop due to parking problems, Alice decided it was time to leave the City Centre after 14 years.

In October 2007, Alice opened her new shop in Chorlton-cum-Hardy. "It is far more convenient to visit as it is just off the motorway. We also have a free car park (2 hours) on Manchester Road as well as little side roads for parking." says Alice.
